Hi my friends...........

I am from India and i have received an admit letter from Northwestern Law School for LL.M Fall 2010 Program. I want to know how is the school and what are the job prospects?

Job prospects are dim in the USA at the moment. Northwestern is a fine school, but it is very expensive (and as expensive as better schools).

I would ask the career services department very specific questions regarding placement for 2009 and 2010 LLM grads. Career services departments in the USA are notorious for not answering specific questions, but I would ask. If you don't get specific answers, look elsewhere.

Law firms are just not hiring. The (very) few international students who have found a job come from countries such as Brazil or Chile, that is where law firms are trying to build connections with local businesses and law firms. Here, as well as in many other top schools, it's plenty of your fellow Indians, Chineses and other Asians. You have to be extremely talented to be considered for a job, since your fellows have found nothing so far (and their pretty smart). If it can anyhow comfort you, Europeans are in the same positions...

How is the community at Northwestern? Are LLM students well integrated into the law school community (i.e. are LLM students encouraged to take on leadership positions in student organizations)?

if you want badly to commit yourself to student organizations, I think you can easily run for top positions. Nonetheless, there's a good reason for which domestic students are usually preferred to run such organizations, i.e. they know their own country, they have contacts and know places where to hold events, and they usually hold such positions for all the 3 years of their JD program, thus affording a certain degree of continuity
