I was accepted last November 30th. I am still waiting the answer of Columbia....

Hey guys,
got admitted too, still I'm not so sure what to do about the 500 bucks. It's too soon to have many alternatives...

I already have a few alternatives. In the end, affordability will be decisive. So everything depends on Duke's scholarship decisions in due time (i.e. before other acceptance deadlines run out).
You could pay the 500 bucks with a precautionery caveat of actual attendance; the 500 would be lost, of course, but you would preserve all other options. Just be little generous :-)
Viel Erfolg noch.

Hey wedgy;-)
that's the plan. and since next week is christmas, the 500 bucks will be considered a present for the duke people.
I'm in the same situation you are. fin.aid will decide about where to go. it's just that I wasn't expecting the decisions to be made so early and was hoping for all of them to come within one timeframe.
where're you from by the way??

I'm just kiddin, of course. I would not pay a deposit just for the sake of keeping an option open. At the utmost, I would ask for a deadline extension.
It's not surprising that decisions are made that early. That's inherent to a system of rolling admissions, which some (most?) universities use. Further, the law schools are competing too, so they have their tactics in scheduling their decisions on admissions, scholarship grants and setting deadlines for acceptance -- all relative to a given applicant and their estimation of one's chances elsewhere.
I'm just happy that I can acquit myself of all that weird ranking madness discussed here by people apparently thinking they will die young and unhappy if they don't get in at HLS or NYU; or they'll settle in the US and can wave with their Green Cards from the window of a top law-firm in NYC if they get in at HLS or NYU. B******t.
> where're you from by the way??
My relaxed attitude towards rankings uncovers me as a German lawyer, but I'm currently in the US. Wahlstation.
Keep up the spirit.

Oh, right here, right now at my desk :-)
I don't disclose the company name on this forum. Seems more professional to me not to create any link between me and the company, since this is a forum for personal opinions and decisions.
There's no aversion against big law-firms. I spent my Anwaltsstation at one of the big ones.
And the funny thing is that I've already organized my 2008 OPT in NYC with another big one (without having been asked which law school I'm gonna attend).
> Fröhliche Weihnachten!!!!
... ja, Ami-Style dieses Jahr.
Gleichfalls!
