UCL 2023-24

Hello everybody. Has anyone received any offers lately? It has been quiet here! I received an email saying my application is still being considered and a decision may not be available in two weeks. Has anyone else received a similar email?

FYI: I received an e-mail yesterday saying:

"We wanted to get in touch to confirm that we are still considering your application. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we have received we may not be able to provide you with a decision within the next two weeks. We are very sorry about this as we know that waiting for a university decision can be an anxious time."

Hello,

They usually open July/August time, well beyond when everyone will have received their offers.

I applied in late January and am still waiting for an answer. A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail saying they were still assessing my application. Today it's been 10 weeks since they received my references and still no response...

I must say that I am pretty disappointed in UCL and how slow they are with processing applications. I applied in early January and have received the famous e-mail about their delay in mid February. I have applied to 7 law schools and have heard back from all of them except UCL which, honestly, seems pretty unprofessional from UCLs admissions office... I guess I'll have to wait another couple of weeks and see...

May I ask what is your degree classification? If it is a first or a high 2.1, I believe there is no reason to delay your application. Otherwise, if you confirm it is a mid 2.1 or low 2.1, it might indicate that they are awaiting for a number of candidates to do a selection.

Regards.

Hey everyone,
I applied in early February and received an email stating that I wouldn't receive any results within two weeks (delays). Has anyone who received a similar message been either accepted or rejected?

Actually it is low 2:1.
Can you give us more explication about how they are selecting candidates?

Actually it is low 2:1.
Can you give us more explication about how they are selecting candidates?

I understand that the minimum required is a 65% across all years of study. However, they are open to receive students -not far from that mark- where:

1. There is relevant experience in relation to the LLM.

2. When the program has places that have not been taken.

I believe they offer places to strong candidates in the first place. For those who are below or near the marks required, they may await to receive a certain number of applications by a particular date. Then, they do filter candidates once again, and offer places.

Good luck mate!

I think UCL just usually takes a considerable amount of time assessing applications up to 10 weeks or more.

I've applied to 6 universities and already got final decisions from all of them except UCL. I have a strong first, applying and reference received on 26 Jan. Got an infamous two-weeks-late email on 21 Mar. And still haven't heard back. So, don't worry! It's going to be a long long way.

Regards.

Sorry for being prying. I recognize them from Cambridge thread. They've already got an offer from Cambridge. I'm sure it's not a mid 2.1 or low 2.1, they have a first. ;)

Yes, they surely do. I got that information from forums about UCL, comments, etc. However, I do not understand what is the point on making you wait. Perhaps, the academic work and personal statement have an important weight on the application?

Let's see.

Good luck!

That might be because his personal statement and academic work is not good enough for UCL, but for Oxbridge since he got offers from both. Oxford also requires an academic work. Or perhaps he will not get into UCL, but you will. I don't think he even cares. He has Oxbridge. It's just an etiquette, heard back about decisions in a reasonable period of time once one applied. What do you want to suggest from these posts by saying about grades for waiting applicants anyway? The long wait doesn't indicate anything at all. Trust me.

Guessing game will do no good for your peace of mind. Most importantly, do not guess for others like they have 2.1, so decisions come late or their academic work or personal statement might put them on hold etc. It's somehow out of line. Especially, when you said that lower grades applicants have to wait for filter. After that, when someone said they got a first, you tried to guess for them again by mentioning academic work and personal statement?

Moreover, I don't think he wants to understand why he hasn't received a decision yet. He just shared information about date of apply etc. for others like he always does on Oxbridge threads, which I found quite helpful. Hence, others can know the current process and guess for their own.

For your record, I got a solid first and offers from every university I applied including top ones like Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard etc. I still haven't heard back from UCL too. I applied on late Jan. Good luck then.

PS. Sorry, clairedeblue. I just want to say this. I read their posts, and I don't like the tone.

Not at all Lucy.  Perhaps, you are personalising this conversation. For example, you assumed that does he does not care about the offer. At the same time, you make a judgment: "It's somehow out of line". I disagree with that since I am referring to an admission process which applies equally to everybody.

UCL says: "We may be willing to consider applicants who are close to, but do not meet these quantitative criteria, where space on the programme allows. Such applicants must demonstrate that they excel in motivation, analytical and reasoning ability and communication skills. This needs to be demonstrated across the personal statement and the written work. Applicants with less than an average of 62% (or equivalent in other jurisdictions) across all years of study will not normally be considered under these criteria".

It is not guessing, it is a work of statistics. Thanks to his and your response, we are 100% sure that UCL response is not based 100% on the grades as some other posts suggest. It is a work of numbers. Do not take it personally :) Nobody is forcing another to share his/her grades. Thank you for sharing yours too!

Good luck with your application.
Regards :)

@LucyLLMUK:
I'm assuming that you are talking about me (though I am not sure because I am neither male nor do I hold an offer from Oxford). If so, I am sorry that you feel offended by my post earlier in this thread.
With my post, I just wanted to express my frustration over the long waiting period. I am currently postponing acceptance of another offer and still waiting for UCL. It just makes it hard for me to plan my next academic year. Good luck to everyone!
