SOAS vs Glasgow

tdow2012

I have recently received offers for 2012 from both SOAS and Glasgow for an LLM in Banking Law and International commercial law respectively.

I am having a hard time making a choice. I am non UK/EU fee paying student so fees/expense are a big concern.I was hoping to get some insight from people which university was better/they recommend.

Note: I can at this point still switch specializations at SOAS

any input would be most appreciated.

International Commercial Law is better at SOAS by far.
On a general level, SOAS is regarded as a more prestigious university as opposed to Glasgow.

I would advise you to go with SOAS.

To say that SOAS is generally regarded as more prestigious is simply not true.

Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world, ranks in the top 60 in the world, and has a top 10 UK law department.

In reality, SOAS doesn't come close.

This is not my opinion. I have spoken to many lawyers, especially from the matrix chambers, and they have told me the same. They also told me QMUL is not in the same league of many universities, despite the reckless rankings on times online etc.

At the end of the day, its an individual choice, but I would highly advise one to opt for an LLM which will gear you up for a career in practice or academia.
