Should I contact LSE?

LLM555

I submitted my application to LSE on Novermber 4 -- which is now 10 weeks in the past. LSE's website says the decision will take only 8 weeks, but I still have not received any word.

Should I contact them directly? If so, then should I call or email?

Has anyone else been in a similar position that can help?

Thanks.

Maybe you should wait a while longer, unless you have compelling reasons to enquire as to the status of your application, i.e. scholarship foundation requirements, deadline for submission of grant requirements including offer of admission, etc. If you have compelling reasons for an enquiry on your application status, an email to the Graduate Admissions Office would suffice.

Yes i also think u should wait. Im on the exact situation as you are. I sent my application on October 24th and they acknowledged receipt on November 3rd that was the final e-mail they sent me stating that my application was complete and that they were reviewing it.
Its been more than 2 months already and my status hasnt changed yet. But I remember clearly that it says that we shouldnt contact them because the latest information about on the online tracker and they dont have any other information available to provide. So I think that if you call theyll tell you that u should wait for the online tracker to change your status because thats the only information they have. Well at least thats my opinion. Maybe just wait until January 27 and if u havent heard anything maybe u can call. Believe I m also very anxious thinking if this means they are going to reject me or what but I just cannot do anything about it, just wait! Good luck :o)

On the other hand, if I may disagree, they are very friendly, and have given me all assistance with a reference that had sort of a problem.
Try your luck. The worst that could happen is to receive a standard answer like "we have not reached a conclusion as to your appication" or something like it.

Guys

My application was complete on 11 November 2008. You may have seen my post on one of the other threads. On Monday, 12 January 2008 my status changed to read the following:

"A decision has been made on this choice and is being processed. Processing involves checking by a senior member of staff, and occasionally verification of one or more details by your Department. Most decisions will be finalised and appear here within one or two working days (remember to allow for weekends!), however if we require clarification from the Department your status will remain unchanged for longer periods. No further information is available until all checks have been completed, and the decision will be posted here first."

I still havent heard anything back. There appears to be concensus amongst some people that the above note is a good sign but who knows? Good luck to everyone.

I do think your message on the online tracker is a good sign, just be positive. Best of lucks for you! :)

Just to add i post the exact information you can find in the FAQ page of LSE about decisions.

You can check the progress and status of your application, references, transcripts and other supporting documents on the online status checker. The information you see displayed online is the same as the information held on our central database, it is updated live as the Graduate Admissions team process your documents and decisions that arrive in our office during the day. We do not have any further information on your application status other than the information displayed on this page.

Not quite always. I had things expedited by calling them once. It cannot hurt.

If you still require further information regarding the status of your application, and no progress is reflected on your online tracker, it may be reasonable to make an enquiry by the 1st week of February. I cannot comment on whether it would benefit or harm your application, because only the admissions committee (or any member thereof) would know that.

It should be noted that while the Graduate Admissions Office processes all applications (LLM, MSc, MA, MPhil, PhD), the final decision rests with each respective department, in this case the Department of Law (specifically, committee members assigned to graduate law admissions), on who to admit. Thus, while it may be possible to obtain a reply from the Graduate Admissions Office involving administrative matters, the people making the final decision on whether or not to make an offer of admission belong to the Department of Law (insofar as the LLM and relevant MSc programmes are concerned). Unless the Department of Law therefore verifies or checks your credentials and formally gives a favourable/unfavourable decision on your application, the Graduate Admissions Office would be hard-pressed to give you a satisfactory answer.
