Part-time jobs please!

Hi everyone,
I am an LLM student presently studying in one of the colleges of University of london.
London is the most expensive city I have ever lived in and I am afraid my cash flow is not as smooth as it was 2 months ago!
I have classes only 2 days a week so I can do some work and earn a little money for survival and thats exactly my problem - where to get the jobs!
The workstation in my school hasnt been particularly useful and I have not received any positive response in relation to my application for jobs. Take note, I am not applying for any "posh" legal jobs or the sort! I just want a casual sort that will pay for my bills and the occasional beer at my local pub (u know, like 6 -8hrs per hour)...
BUT it appears no one in this city wants to hire a postgraduate law student for a casual job! I even get turned down by employers in relation to call centre openings, minor administrative positions, shop assistants!!!
Thats the world we live in (in london) - a lawyer (though not qualified to practice in London) cant even get a casual job!!! I know the unemployment rate is staedily climbing worldwide but puh-lease!, with all my skills-set, surely people should be able to trust me to answer phone calls or serve hamburgers in restaurants or ring the cash tills in shops, etc?
Anyway seriously, I would appreciate any help from anyone on how to get a part-time job in the great city of london!!! And to think that my namesake is a great football hero who has no problems with his pick of jobs!
Cheers everyone.

What about working as a law tutor? At Westminster or City or one of the many universities offering law courses...
Or what about working for a temporary employment agency? London has plenty.
Hope you find something. It's an expensive city- can be stressful without much money!

Yeah, it's a bit expensive here....
I'm doing an LLM course and have a part time job. Nothing special but it gives you some additional income to pay basic bills. I work in a mountain sports shop as a shop assistant. I can't complain, they are flexible, 90 % of staff are students and we have lot's of fun there.
If you are looking for a similar job, just keep asking about vacancies. It took me 3 weeks to get this job. I think I walked into every shop and cafe in Covent Garden at least twice and finally, I got lucky. It's a good time to look for a job now. Christmas is coming and shops are getting crazy so they will look for part time employees. Just don't give up and you will find something. Good luck!

What about working at the university? (U of London, or, in the last poster's case, Warwick) Your program might impose restrictions on your working, but can you still apply to work at other parts of the university, outside your department? Or maybe you have language skills- you could put up signs for tutoring ...
Hang in there!!

Hi David. My idea is perhaps not as daft as it sounds. I knew someone who shopped at TKMAX to buy lots of cheap snowboarding gear and designer clothes, and sell it on Ebay at a profit (her and her boyfriend financed their living expenses and a round-the-world tour in little under two years). She had a good eye for what would sell and what wouldn't. I saw a programme about a guy who sold figurines on Ebay for five years, and made enough to purchase a large holiday villa in France (he lived in England).

In London you must have your pick of bargain shops. Some electrical stuff, clothes shop, low cost toys, exercise equipment, jumble sales... you name it, I'd expect you could buy something good at a relatively low cost for resale. And at this time of year particularly, people are going mad for shopping and they will often look to ebay for a "bargain".

All you need is a computer, a little digital camera and some common sense!

There are lots of useful guides available - but if you haven't used the online market place before, then I recommend just getting stuck in!

Worth a shot?
