Off to UCL - Sep 2010

I would like to know if there is any international student heading to UCL who are still waiting to receive the CAS number, because that is my case.

The Admissions Office does´t reply my emails or answer the phone. Someone told me that they are ignoring the phone due to the vast amount of work. So I called another number but the lady refused to put me in contact with the Admissions Office and said that I need to wait, they might send me something by mail in the next 10 days, but the problem is that I live in South America and all the letters I got from UCL took almost one moth to arrive here.
I asked a friend who is arlready in London to go there and talk to the Admissions and the guy said that they havent yet issued any CAS number, which is not true because I talked to a few international studenst and by now they all have their CAS numbers. The guy also said that they will let me now my MAIL (!) asap.
They seem to be very to be very desorganized and insensitive I might miss classes due to their delay.
I dont know what to do now...

Hey Judy Law,
They've started to send the CAS number a couple a weeks ago, because you can only apply for a visa 3 months before the date you have to start the class, not before. It's probably why you haven't received your CAS number yet. I think they will send your CAS by email (not mail), as they did with mine (I'm also a South American). So it's probably a matter of days now. Good luck!
PS: When you guys are planning to arrive in London?

Hi Marina,

Thanks for ur reply. Finally I they sent my CAS number yesterday. I was worried because now I are just 2 months before the course starting date and the visa application process takes some time.
By the way I ll arrive in London in mid September. What about you?

You can not use your CAS number from one university to apply for a visa for another university. If you do so, your visa will be denied.
Good luck.

Hi Felipe, no you can´t do that as Marina said. You must use the CAS number issued by the University you ll attend.

Sorry about these millions questions, but I am a little lost when it comes to rent an apartment.
Cheers

Hi Marina.

Kirby Street provides ensuite flats with kitchens and double-beds. They arent very cheap, but given that Ill be sharing with my fiancée its feasible I dont know how much youve budgeted for accommodation, but based on my weekly budget I wouldnt be able to pay for this room alone.

Regarding safety, its in Zone 1 and the surrounding area seems rather nice (I havent been there, but Ive got a friend currently living in London and she checked out the room, building and surrounding area for me and she liked it).

Now, with respect to payment, Ive already paid a safety deposit (250 pounds) and I have to pay off the yearly rent on the 5th September (you can apply for an instalment plan, but then you get interests and an instalment fee so I ruled it out and went for a single payment).

Ive heard some references about Unite from a bloke I met on this LLM Guide, and he had had the chance to work with them in the past and said they are a trustworthy company (listed on London Stock Exchange). But in my opinion, the most important thing that made me book a room with them was that my friend looked it over in person and liked it.

It's beicon who gives us our fun-loving reputation. The rest of us are merely on here to panic about our IELTS scores and CAS numbers and so on.

Hi,

As you can see by my creative username, I am a brazilian going to LSE :-)
Unfortunately I am desperately trying to finish a lot of things in Brazil and still to get my visa. I can't say, however, that I am as funny as Beicon :-) But I am also not a very occupied genious, that you can be sure. Actually I am pretty scared right now about everything!!

I dont wish to disappoint you but in person Im very far from being the samba-boy its just one of the wonders of the internet that allows you to be this persona online. Anyway, its not as if Im no fun in person either, just a bit shier than youd expect after reading my posts but my fiancée will be with me and shes a real ice-breaker so that makes things a bit easier.

But I digress. Back to whats at stake here: Brazilians going to LSE unfortunately, apart from a person (nickname brazilian) that pops in every now and then here on the guide, I dont know any Brazilians going to LSE but Im sure therell be at least five or six (being utterly modest here), cause its one of the most popular UK universities among Brazilian lawyers followed by Kings College strangely not that many people are familiar with UCL here. But, once again, I digress
