Not LLM, but law ranking. Moreover, there must be a mistake on the web page, since the second and fourth ranked schools are not really top of top.... just like 7 to 10...
The ranking is:
1. Oxford
2. Schl of Oriental & African Studies
3. London Schl of Economics
4. Manchester
5. Cambridge
6. King's Col, London
7. Cardiff
8. Abertay Dundee Uni
9. Queen Mary, London
10. Bradford

Oh, and UCL is 14th behind CITY and HULL...

Depends how you read this and what you want from it !!.
Click on Job prospects at the top of the column to rearrange and you will be surprised to find Abertay (?) first and Bradford up there as well.
Again its consistency that's the key NOT one year !!

Rankings issued by The Times are the real measure. Guardian's is full of lefty oddities..
Posted Apr 21, 2005 15:31
i agree that the times ranking is more authoritative than the guardian's. Especially if you see that a few of the top 10 schools are usually nowhere near the top 10. however, (having graduated from there myself) i am happy to see that manchester is back where it belongs.

These rankings are for undergraduate (LLB) programs only, and do not take into account research or reputation, which are both extremely important to anyone doing their LLM as a springboard to academia. The employment factor does not differentiate between the "quality" of the job placement, i.e., do the graduates end up at high-paying City firms or in a three person solicitors outfit in Cantebury. This is not to suggest that the rankings are wholly useless, but I think it is clear that they should play very little role in shaping an LLM student's choice of institution.

I found these rankings very surprising.
I think they should be read as commendation for universities like Cardiff, Dundee, City, etc that would not normally be considered top-tier but not as a condemnation of Cambridge and UCL.
Nobody in their right mind would suddenly think that they should turn down an offer at Cambridge to read law at Hull (unless they had a spectacular personal reason).

Ah, that can make one go crazy... so where would you place the following law schools: Warwick, UCL, KCL and for example Durham?! really need an answer, got admissions to all of them (some are still conditional)!!!
Based on reputation and quality of LLM programme.
I understand that the question is tough...
It is simplier not to read threads at all, then to read them when you already got admissions... and start thinking on whether the decision was right...uh...! Sos :)

Dear Maude:
Are you saying/considering that KCL has a higher rated law programme than UCL. I always cosidered the opposite. Was I wrong?

Just to reiterate a VERY important point:
"They are designed as a simple measure of the undergraduate experience, with no postgraduate and no research figures included."
From the page "Jimmy Leach explains why, and how, the Guardian produces university league tables "

I disagree!!
I think the Guardian league table is just as useful as the Times!
I may be biased because I was fortunate enough to go there, but SOAS for example IS a top law school. Its an excellent institution and Internationally respected because of its unique courses and its international outlook. Unfortunately many UK students aren't yet clued up enough to understand this thats why it has loads of international students.
Its really good for the LLM as well so check it out if thats your thing!

Does anyone have the link for the Times law school rankings? How do the rankings differ? Is Oxford still #1?
