I heard from my friend (LLM. Postgraduate Student 2009) that professors of Durham Law school have resigned and now Durham is facing financial crisis( My friends who graduated from Durham got donation letters)
Moreover, Durham already gave many offers to Thai Students( more than 10). We are guessing that they will cut someone off at the end of pre-sessional course like it had happened two years ago.
I am quite worrying, because of without any news, Durham is one of the greatest university and I always want to go there.
Now, I got offers from QMUL, Manchester and Aberdeen. I have to make a decision so soon. If Durham is really in a bad situation, then I will head to other.
Thank You
Need anyone who can confirm about Durham's situation!

Durham had some problems with professors a few years ago but i don't think they are any problems now.
I also don't think they are any problems financially, every university sends out donation letters. I also got a donation letter as did every graduate. There is no problem with that. The Law school is moving to new buildings and everything seems to be going okay with that.

hello !! Gublink
Frankly, I'm really worry about your news because i'm one of those who got conditional offer from Durham with 12 weeks presessional course. And the terms to successful this course is every Law student must complete the course with "A" level.
Is it too difficult than retake Ielts with band 7?? or It would be definitely to try hard in the pre-sessional course
If your rumour to be true, this will be the worse news i ever heard about Durham law school.
But i think we can figure it out cos the International officer will come to visit Bangkok during 13-20 march, so you can ask them about this uncertain situations. I'll making the decision after meeting them.
Durham is my first choice and i'm really wanna pursue my master degree there.

I don't think so...
They are even offering 172 scholarships to undergraduates that graduate this year from Durham and want to study a master's degree there this coming year.
Durham had issues with Professors a few years back, but the department is still as strong and as good as ever.!!!
Don't think twice and go there!!!!

I heart that many Thai's students would go there in this semester including me.
Personally, I am worry about an English pre-sessional course (in term of complete the course with "A" level). According to my friend who had real experience there, she told me that last 2-3 years ago, these hypothetical was true that there were numerous students couldn't pass the English language department exam. It meaned that they couldn't got "A" level were not allow to study in the law school.
I just got an offer from Durham law school and it also included my condition to study English for 12 weeks!!!
(too long)
In case that I got IELTS 6.5 , how many weeks have I attend an English course?

To Katze
I'm heading to Durham this July. As the same as yours;overall 6 and writing 5.5. I got conditional offer with 12 weeks pre-sess course.
If you hold 6.5 overall band in Ielts, i think it's possible for 4 weeks pre-sessional course .I'm not sure for these , try hard and send them the new one.
However, it's depend on writing too( It might be 6 or 6.5 band)
ps. I'm in St.Mary( 12 weeks presesional course) then Ustinov

Hi there,
I achieved an overall 7.5 with 7.0 in every section, except of the reading section, there I got 8.5 .... In the conditional offer they recommended me to take a 4-week-pre-course ... but that was before I forwarded them my IELTS result (which I did it yetserday)...so I don't see a need for me to take that (expensive) course anymore... If they don't change their offer to an unconditional one, I think I will not accept their offer!

Do you know, in the end, if the 4 week pre-sessional course is easy to pass ? Or do you suggest to retake the IELTS ?
Thanks!
Thanks!
