Hi all,
I submitted a deferral request for the LSE LLM because I wasn't able to gather sufficient financial support in order to attend this year.
The bord of admissions replied that they are unable to grant it to me and, unless I can attend this year anyway, I may only reinstate my application for next year.
Does in your opinion this mean that my admission was 'weak' (i.e. it was not worth it to entice me with an open ticket for next year), or is it just a policy of the law department to deny deferrals generally?
Also, according to LSE's relevant web page, it appears that in order to reinstate one's application it is necessary to submit a new personal statement, which I find puzzling, since I applied three months ago and not much has changed since in my achievements, career objectives and study plans.
I would be grateful if someone might offer me some guidance to interpret this situation.
Thank you very much.

Means you were on the border line in terms of being admitted or not. Hence, try to get the funds together (maybe a corporate scholarship or loan?) and go this year.

I actually had the same issue when I was first accepted. I was accepted into the LLM for 2009/10 and wrote a very simple deferral letter. They denied my deferral request. However, I contacted the Graduate Admissions Director and wrote a more detailed reason as to my request for the deferral. It worked, and I am now attending for the 2010/11 year.
I don't think it has anything to do with your standing, they are simply looking for a real reason as to why you will not be able to attend.
