Living in London

How did you all go about getting housing in London? I have one month to find housing! What do I do? I am going to school near Regent's Park. The schools offer housing, but I am 29, do you think I'd be too old to be living in school housing, even if it's postgraduate housing? Any help/advice really appreciated :)

I am in the same position. I am going to LSE, but did not get accomodation. I plan on flying to London from the US in mid-September with a couple bags of clothing and looking for a flat. It should really take about 1 or 2 weeks to find a place.

are you serious? Isn't that a bit, um, risky?!? Is that possible? Just wondering, sounds too good to be true.

Not really. There are plenty of websites that list people looking for flatmates. I know LSE offers short-term accomodation while students look for places to live. The school also has an accomodation office. I plan on doing a bit of legwork and picking the best spot. I would think its much riskier to simply pick a spot on-line without meeting possible flatmates or checking out the neighborhood.

Do you have a place to stay when you first get there, or are you really just winging it? I guess the rent is weekly, isn't it? Do you have any idea how the leases work (are they monthly, yearly, whatever)....are you looking in the classifieds when you get there? Sorry for all the questions, it just sounds like you've looked at this a little more! Thanks in advance.
