It depends what you want to be employed as, Anuranjani.

You could become a practicing lawyer in the UK, but you'd be required to do at least a further three or four years study to qualify. You could sit an accelerated LL.B and then complete a Diploma in Legal practice.

With an good score in your engineering degree you could be accepted within a postgrad law programme such as the University of Edinburgh's LL.M Innovation, Technology and the Law. This would give you a good standing to move on to further study as a patent attorney.

I hope this helps a little.

Wow.. well.. where to start.. you want to be a lawyer specialising in IP? So the first question is how to get you practicing law in the UK? That's a huge area to cover, Anu, there are so many combinations of studies and eventual employment opportunities for you.

I recommend heading off to the a search engine on the world wide web and completing some initial research to find out what's out there, narrow down your choices a litte, get to know the requirements, look at some employment based websites.. here are a few keywords to help you get started:

Accelerated LL.B
Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies
Diploma in Legal Practice

Also, check both the Scottish Law Society - http://www.lawscot.org.uk/
And the English equivalent - http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/home.law

If you are just looking for an LL.M to boost your credentials when dealing with IP related issues, then The University of Edinburgh's programme is a great place to start (http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/pg/itllm.asp) but of course, it's not the only programme you should look at!

I hope my response will get you heading in an appropriate direction. If you have specific questions later I'll be delighted to help out.
