KCL LLM 2016-17

llmomw

Hi,

I started working on my LLM application for 2016-17 at KCL and I could not find the usual page for reference details.

According to the FAQ, it is still a requirement for Taught Postgraduate.

Could those who have applied and received their offer for the next cohort be able to confirm whether KCL did ask for reference at a later stage?

Thank you

I got my offer from Kings's in mid December. Their reference policy had been quite confusing so I decided to ask the admission office before submitting my application. They told me that letters of reference are not required for the LLM anymore. However, if an application is borderline, they might ask you to provide a letter of reference at a later stage.

I found it quite confusing too. I decided to upload the reference letters of my professors in the section of the transcripts ("other") and the letter of my boss at the law firm as "proof of work". I am not sure whether this is sufficient for King's but I assume in case it is not, they will send me an e-mail.

Since I'm form Austria as well, would you mind sharing your profile with me? To which universities have you applied beside KCL?

Two further anomalies, I have noticed are:
1) Impossible to input a current work experience
2) Bar membership under professional qualification

These are ongoing events which the form would not allow since it is compulsory to insert an end date.

I noted that the application process for KCL is quite confusing compared to other universities, e.g. the Dickson Poon scholarship seems to be no longer available yet it is displayed on KCL funding page while it does not show up when a search on the funding database is carried out.

Good luck to all those awaiting an acceptance and those waiting to enroll on the course.

My experience was the same as yours:

ad 1) I inserted that I finish in June 2016 which is wrong, if they do not accept my application, but in case they accept it, I have to quit in summer. That's why I decided to fill it in this way.

ad 2) I stated that I am member of the Austrian Bar Association, which is true, because I am "trainee lawyer" and in this position I am listed at the Austrian Bar Association and try to specify my status with my code from the Austrian Bar Association, which is different from the code of registered attorney.

How do you solve these problems?

I am awaiting a reply from the admission team at KCL on those issues.

I have submitted my application to the admission portal since
December 3,2015 I didn't hear anything from them as well. However, I once awarded LLM from King's and somebody have assumed that if the candidates are once awarded the Master then they will not be considered, yet I'd rather believe that it's not for my case.

I have submitted my follow up message to them, the feedback was they will contact me in due course probably they are working on it.

Excuse-me but Boomcha_ isn't absolutely right. There is no guarantee (100%) you get to be at King's accomodation. I am currently studying at King's College and using one of their accomodations (Orchard Lisle House next to London Bridge) and the process is that we are randomly allocated accomodations. There are less accomodations than applicants. Therefore, you don't know where you are sent nor if you get one until august.

Btw, I am looking someone to take over my contract at King's Accomodation from June 2016 if someone is interested...

According to KCL website: "All new undergraduate and international postgraduate applicants are guaranteed accommodation for their first year of study" (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/study/accommodation/apply/index.aspx )

I hope that was not a sly attempt to flog your room.

To be guaranteed accommodation, there are two conditions:

1. Must accept the course offer
2. Must apply for accommodation by 13 June 2016

I guess those who did not get accommodation made late applications.

Guarantee is explained here too:

Oh, okay. You may be right. But I have heard that somewhere which is why I wrote that. You must be right regarding the late application. However what I am 100% sure is that you get to pick a couple of accomodation (order of preference) but you are randomly allocated one. It can be your 3rd of 5th choice and not your first. You know what accomodation you're given in August.... some of them are a bit far from the Strand campus. Some have a better location (Stamford Street Apartments, Orchard Lisle/Iris Brooke...).
