Hi All,
Please can somone advise me on this matter?
I work as a procurement and purchasing professional in an international context. I set up complex commercial arrangements and therefore thought that an LLM in International commercial Law would be of great assistance (which I start in september)
I am a non law graduate and do not wish to be a solicitor.
I do however work with a team of inhouse lawyers and contribute the same amount as they do due to my experience in the field. My question is , does an LLM allow a non law graduate to be a legal advisor/legal counsel within a commercial organisation's inhouse legal team?
in the UK or Ireland?
Also how does an LLM tie in to 'Legal executives'?
Many thanks for your assistance

Hi Kay,
well I can't tell you about the UK or Ireland, but normally an Inhouse Counsel or Legal Advisor does not need to be a bar certified lawyer as long as they do not want to represent they company in court (which is, at least in Germany, not allowed for amounts in controversy above 5.000 EUR anyways). The companies make their own rules on the qualifications a legal counsel may need and some are very strict and only recruit certified lawyers. But if I was in your position, I would do some research which companies recruit paralegals or non-legal graduates for their departments.
