Congratulations! Now, have the scholarships still got to be determined?

I'm currently enrolled at the University of Michigan Law School, which is in the top 10 in the United States. I'm also executive editor of the Michigan Law Review, have a published note, have another piece of writing in the works, and had really good recommendations. As for scholarships, I doubt I'll hear until this summer at the earliest.

Just an update: Offer set on my Self-Service page.

It took almost a month for them to publish the details..!!
Are there any conditions or any other outstanding issues that need to be met or fulfilled or resolved?

I have a non-standard academic condition (which conventional wisdom indicates means I have to finish my current degree, possibly with a particular GPA) and a non-academic condition. But I have yet receive the actual letter, which will list the conditions themselves, so that's all the information I have so far.

HRoark,
Congratulations on your admission to the PhD Programme. If you don't mind, may I inquire as to your specific research interest which you intend to pursue at Cambridge? Thanks.

Good luck on your PhD. Thanks and congratulations once again.

Hope the conditions are humane and not arbitrarily inflated, as has been the case with others who have reported their conditions over the years..
Best of Luck ..

HRoak, congrats! Wishing you all the best.

I have read the horror stories about insane academic conditions. My hope is that since the faculty of law recommended me for a Gates Scholarship (for which I have an interview), they won't set unreasonable conditions.

HRoak, may I ask whether they sent you any notification by e-mail or do they merely update CAMSIS?
Posted Jan 12, 2009 16:22
I did not receive an email.
Posted Jan 12, 2009 16:29
That is an interesting bit of news because there was a suggestion on the website that successful candidates are likely to hear first through an e-mail.
Anyways, are you waiting for the decision at Oxford, or would you be content with Cambridge?

Maybe I was unclear on what the question was asking. I did receive an email from the Faculty of Law saying that I had be approved, and that they were forwarding my application to the Board of Graduate Studies. But I did not receive an email to let me know that my self-service page had been updated, or that the BGS had approved my application. I am still waiting for a decision from Oxford, because I really like the supervisor I have arranged there. However, I am interviewing for a Gates Scholarship in February, and if I get it, it will be hard to turn down Cambridge without some good scholarship from Oxford.

Update: My offer letter arrived in the mail today. Most of the conditions were pro forma, but I do have to obtain a 3.7 average (which is top 8% or so). As an added gripe, I'd like to add that I attend one of the highest-ranked law schools in the United States, and it annoys me that I didn't get any leeway on the GPA condition. I have read, however, that I can discuss this with the department if necessary. At any rate, I expect that I will end up in the 3.65 - 3.75 range, but still...

Congrats HRoark!! I'm truly happy for you! I believe that 3.7 GPA won't be too hard for you. But still, there is no harm discussing this matter with the department. Goodluck!
I apply to LLM at Cambridge and still waiting for an offer. To everyone out there: is this mean that only people who appled for Phd receive an offer first? Have anyone who applied for LLM received an offer yet?

Yeah, I'm trying to find a way to word it that isn't too whiny. Also, I got my reply early because I asked for an expedited response.
