Grades for entry, how hard are they?

marianby

Hi,

I´m Marian, I applied to University of Nottingham for the International Criminal Law Program, and I received a conditional offer saying that I had to have over 15 of 20 (my country grades scale) in my overall GPA, I´ve got 14,88, what do you think? are they flexible?. I surpass the english requirements and I´ve got excellent recommendations from the Dean and the Head Professor in Int´l Law in my University.

PLEASEEE ADVICE!

Is 14.88 your final mark? Are you still waiting for final results from your undergraduate program? If so, I would until all your grades are in. If not, you should absolutely contact them. I don't know how flexible Nottingham is in particular, but I have to think that refusing you an accommodation would, in the circumstances, be pretty harsh.

I´m finishing my undergraduate degree.. haven´t received it yet but that´s the score since I´m only missing one exam on friday and it won´t change the score at all. I just got the other results today.

I think a lot of people are planning to study this year since job prospects globally are not that great just now, and it is already June, so if you are applying for October 2010 there might be a risk that they are enforcing the requirements strictly.

Therefore I definitely think you should apply, but also have a few other back-up options that you will be happy with, just in case the response is negative.

Another strategy if the answer is negative and your heart is really set on Notts might be to get a year's legal work experience and chance an application next year, when the work experience will count in your favour on top of your grades.
