Hej everybody,
I will finish my LL.B in commercial law at the University of Kassel in Germany soon and just searching for an LL.M programme in UK...
My question now is whether the German LL.B (from an unknown university like mine) is accepted at UK-universities like LSE, UCL, KCL, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Durham, SOAS etc. ??? The "normal" law degree in Germany is the "Staatsexamen", the LL.B is not very common and only offered by very few Universities.
Looking forward to you reply !!!

hey
why should it not be accepted? if your grades are very good, it's quite likely that they will accept it like LLBs from other countries, even though it's less common in Germany. I think your chances are better in the UK with your degree than in Germany! Just go ahead and apply!

Huh, long time no post...
Thx for your answer Setareh! As it seems by now I will not make a first class degree, rather an upper second class LL.B. Can anybody say anything about my chances (without any noteworthy work-experience, yet) at the recognised English respectively Scottish Universities???
I know it sounds stupid but sometimes I feel like sitting in this board with a lot of high achievers who just talk about the best Universities but how do you estimate my chances as an average student???

Hi German fellow,
I think you should just try, even tough I don't know how the LL.B. from Germany is ranked.
From my experience some universities have a list of accepted degrees from outside the UK f.e. KCL. The only problem you could face is that a German LL.B. is not listed. I personally must admit that I didn't know about the possibility of an German LLB.
In your case I would write the Admissions Offices and ask. I did the same, because the Staatsexamen now changed into the Erste Prüfung. They were all very nice and helpful.
Good luck
