Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of applying to Durham but I was wondering whether all postgrads are put into the same college or can you choose?

since durham uty as u know follows the collegiate system, like oxbridge, you need to mention the college you want to attend in your app. most postgrads apply to ustinov college because its the only college which is exclusively meant for postgrads..

so bottomline is : u can choose...

Oh I see thanks for your reply. Isn´t the postgrad college way out of town? Do many postrag applicants apply for University College?

Is it possible to change the college recommended? If yes, would it be easy to do that?
Got an offer from Durham with Josephine Butler as the college recommended? I have no idea if that's a good choice. Based on my reading of the facilities offered by the colleges (on their respective websites), I would have preferred Grey College instead.

Re: swedish boy's query, well have no idea about the locations of the colleges....I have been admitted for the term beginning this sept. also, most post grads apply to ustinov like i did but finally been admitted to st hilds...
Re: mtz94's query, i guess u can mail the postgrad deptt and ask them..they are pretty quick with their responses and helpful too....

thanks serendipity. does that mean you're going to durham this september?
i already wrote the pg.dmissions@ac.uk re: my acceptance and requested a change in the college (if possible) as there are some missing facilities in josephine butler.
i accepted durham but did the same thing with nottingham. im wary about what people say regarding durham's extremely quiet lifestyle. that's why im still waiting for some other universities.

yes have been admitted for this fall but am not totally sure about it..but like u, even i have accepted the offer....And yes people have said a thing or two about the city of durham and its rep as a quiet, boring town but i guess that is one of the last factors which deters me from joining a college or not...
I am just awaiting results from other law schools and on the basis of the rep of the course and faculty, etc will finally decide on the college...

thanks serendipity. actually, the fact that durham might be boring is also the least of my concerns. still, i would like to make my stay in the UK as exciting as possible. all work and no play would definitely be boring.
i'm also waiting for other universities before finally deciding

yeah i totally second that....hopefully we should be able to have it our way - good academic plus exciting social life :-)) lets keep our fingers crossed...
btw, are u planning on a general LLM or a specialised LLM?

i applied for general LLM but would opt to choose more courses on international commercial law. at first i was advised by my colleagues to choose a general LLM but i am suddenly having a change of heart. perhaps, i'll just select more courses on international commercial law. how about you serendipity?
btw, durham has not yet responded to my request for a change of college. st. hill also looks great! most brits i know say that durham in fact has a good reputation in the UK.

anybody else planning to go to durham?

i applied for the LLM in intl trade and comm law and got the same..yeah, durham has a good rep in UK . i think after oxbridge, LSE, UCL and King's, durham is definitely up there and the next best uty....

u mean kcl has a better reputation? i didnt apply to kcl because it's only ranked 10.
Posted Feb 04, 2007 16:16
if u really go by the various ranking lists that come out at this particular time of the year, then yes, in some cases durham does figure before KCL but then i still believe that among the law firms in london, KCL definitely does have an edge over durham...and i have come to this conclusion after speaking to some of my seniors who are working in magic circle law firms in london....
also, warwick enjoys a good rep though it figures below durham, etc in the lists...

Am I missing out here, or does it seem that Durhan offers only a few subjects in its LLM program, less than 15 it seems, according to the website.
