Hi, all; I'm admitted to Oxford, and am an American.
Since I've looked in my information but haven't found any answers, does anyone know when (a) the first bill is due, and (b) how precisely one is allowed to pay?
On (a), I think it might be when my college sends me the formal contract to sign, which would suggest as soon as I prove I have the financial reserves to go. (Deadline August, I think.) Is this correct, that I need to pony up tuition et al. only at this point?
On (b), can one write a check from an American bank, or would they need the money in GBP directly? Can one wire the money, transfer it to a new account in the UK, or what?
Thanks very much!

you pay through your college, so the method differs depending on your college. at my college you could pay directly online with your credit card. other colleges you could wire the money in. in any case you will always pay in pounds sterling not dollars.

When you say, "you pay in GBP," does that mean that, for example, I could pay with an American credit card, and the required funds would be converted from GBP to dollars, billed to me in that amount, and Oxford would receive GBP?
This is what happens, for example, when I do other things with a credit card or, for example, with a debit card. When I buy a book in Oxford, the GBP price is converted to dollars, and I'm billed that amount in my US account, even though it goes into the bookseller's account in GBP.
I just am asking because my friend wondered if I needed to set up a bank account in the UK just for this purpose. I plan on setting one up, eventually, but probably not by the time tuition may come due. I just didn't know if Oxford needed to receive straight GBP from a UK account, with no conversion.

no it doesn't have to be from a uk account. it's just like paying for anything else with a credit card abroad. bear in mind that you'll need to set up an account as soon as you arrive anyways though. it's hard to live in a country and not have access to an account..

Is it possible to wire transfer the money to the University right now, instead of sending the financial guarantee form and then proceeding with the visa application after receiving the CAS number from the University? Any idea if I can claim a refund thereafter in unavoidable situations such as not being granted a visa later on? Any help will be much appreciated !
