Hi all,
I am still finalising funding but I have noticed a significant discrepancy in the costs between the LLM and the BCL.
The indicators from Cambridge are that the whole year (tuition, college fees, maintenance, expenses, entertainment) could be as low as GBP16,500 and no higher than about GBP18,500 whereas at Oxford, due to higher course costs, college costs and living expenses, it may be as high as GBP23,500.
Do these numbers accord with other people's estimates?

Yes, I have the same figures. This is due to three reasons:
1. The total fees at Oxford (tuition and college) is about 4000 pounds more than Cambridge.
2. The Oxford BCL is nearly 11 months long whereas the Cambridge LLM is only 9 months long.
3. The cost of living in Oxford a little higher than Cambridge.

I hadn't realised that the BCL was 2 months longer.

A question to those of you currently in the UK: is GBP 8,750 states by Oxford as the approximate maintenance cost for an academic year realistic? Is it possible to cover both living expenses and college accomodation out of it?

Yes - this is a reasonable amount to live off, definitely. I have checked this out with a number of UK sources.
Also, you will note that at Cambridge, you only need to guarantee about GBP5,500 for such expenses, even though they recommend about GBP8,000 or slightly higher. I think this suggests that you could scrape a subsistence living off GBP5,500 and live more comfortably of GBP8,000.
