Do you know whether it is necessary to accept Oxbridge's offer before one's application is forwarded to (and effectively considered by) the preferred or other colleges?

I have not accepted the offer yet. So I guess it was forwarded to my first choice college prior to acceptance

Thank you very much! May I ask why you hesitate to accept the offer? Another question: Do you think it can be somehow beneficial or detrimental to accept an offer by Oxbridge earlier or later? I always think that I should accept my offer from Oxon as soon as possible in order to make the whole thing "psychologically definite"... (Sorry for being slightly off your topic!)

I have not accepted the offer as I am still choosing between Cambridge and NYU. But I have to decide by 23 March - deadline for paying a deposit fee for Cambridge. As for accepting the offer - I agree that it is better to accept as early as possible so that you have time to arrange everything properly (housing, visa etc.)

Thank you very much, Allys! And good luck with your decision!

I strongly disagree with this. This is simply not for the system works. All these processes are occurring in the background whether you opt for the offer or not. They are not waiting for you to say Yes - they are proactively seeking out which college to place you with.
Don't rush into ANYTHING.

I've been offered a Scholarship at Gonville & Caius College &, consequently, the promise of a place there, so the decisions of the colleges are presumably imminent.

Wow! Congrats. Can you tell us about your background at all? Is it for an LLM or PhD?
