Any chance of getting into OxBridge?

Let Down

I know this is a long shot but would I have any chance of getting into OxBridge?

I am graduating with a 2:1 from one of Australia's top universities (a lot of law students from my university go to OxBridge after their LLB and we've had quite a few Rhodes scholars).

The thing is my degree was seven years long and in my final four years I easily obtained grades sufficient for a First. This is my final year and my GPA for this year will probably be a little above 6.82 (a 7.00 being the maximum and a 6.00 being sufficient for a First). It's those first three years that destroyed my chance of a First - especially my third year when I temporarily lost interest in law.

I've done a lot of mooting - I was awarded best speaker by Australia's Chief Justice in one moot and I also did Jessup. I've also won legal competitions such as witness examination, paper presentation and negotiations. And I spent quite long hours in legal employment throughout my degree.

So any chance? Or will they see that I didn't get a First and rule me out without any further consideration?

Many thanks for any advice you give me!

Try??? We're not the admissions committee here. If you had spent the time writing your post here on writing your statements for Oxford or Cantab., you would already be one step further on your potential way there.

Okay, no need to be hostile. You're not the admissions committee but a lot of people here have experience applying for these universities. I have none. I'm not forcing you to give me advice, but there's also no need for a random post criticising me for asking.

I don't think he means it in that way.

I think you sort of fall in their requirements to be admitted. Just make an application and see how it goes. They want academic excellence and potential.

I'm not hostile - it just appears to me that - judging from the way you elaborately presented your credentials - you already are rather confident on your qualifications. Whether or not you are right on this matter is not my point to judge, but I definitely think that this forum is rather made for concrete questions and advice than for reassuring candidates who seem to have already made their decision to apply anyway. So give it a try then and see what the admissions committee has to say. Nobody around here will be able to give you more concrete advice.
