Just received my offer of acceptance at Oxford for this fall. Any other canucks planning on attending?
Also, what college have people preferred?
Any Canadians attending Oxford this fall?

Hi Jw,
I was accepted last year to LSE, Camb and Ox. I deferred all three and then decided to go for a US LLM instead. If you plan to work in Canada you should give your decision some thought before accepting Oxford. I have a friend who did the BCL and "bled through the eyes" given the amount and intensity of work; he's back in Ottawa now still looking for employment in government. He did his LLB at McGill in Quebec, but is qualified in Ontario as well.
If you're up for the challenge and seek academia as your future career aspiration then by all means it is a fine choice. For all other considerations I would choose a top US school.

What is the process / requirements for deferrment at Oxford? Are they generally OK with deferment?
I have been accepted to some top U.S. schools, but must say, however, that my first choice had always been Oxford; this is mainly because of my interest in common law constitutional theory and jurisprudence. And yes, academia is certainly one of my main considerations as well.
Having said that, I'm still weighing my options; I appreciate the advice.

i'm canadian and have been accepted at oxford. although i haven't made my final decision, i'm leaning towards oxford over nyu, harvard, etc. like you, jw, i'm interested in the jurisprudence courses.
does anyone know anything about financial aid at oxford? there was no mention of it in my acceptance letter - should i infer that i was passed over, there's simply no money available, or they're still making decisions?

jw,
For legal theory and jurisprudence you can't go wrong with Oxford. Also, it's cheaper than US schools.
My deferral consited of a letter which explained some family troubles I was having and that I had to stay in North America for the time being. LSE offered a defferal almost immediately. Oxon and Cantab (as we like to call then) asked for greater detail and then granted the deferral.

paedarmy:
I believe that the individual college where you are placed deals with financial aid. So not all decisions have yet been made... and some scholarships, like the Winter Williams, have a deadline for this June. So that has certainly not been decided.
