Does anyone know when we'll start to hear back about funding which we do not have to expressly apply for? ( i.e that we've indicated we'd like to be considered for, along with our application??)

Not sure. Can't speculate but we're clearly not in the first batch.

Right ! I thought they normally send out offer & rejection emails all at one go. Will find out next a few days hopefully.

Good luck to everyone waiting! Don't lose hope - they usually send them out over a three day period so if it started yesterday it should go on till tomorrow.

To confirm offers are sent out via email, but no change occurred online.

No idea on when we hear for scholarships.

But yes, good luck guys and don't loose hope. It takes time for them to even send the offers.

Hi all,

I got a conditional offer yesterday for the MLF. I also got a conditional acceptance from Cambridge for the MCL so I’m trying to decide between the two. Any thoughts? If it helps, I want to qualify as a solicitor in the UK.

Thanks! And good luck to all.

Have you taken the GDL or the LPC? Are you already qualified in any other jurisdiction

No I did the LLB in UK and work at the Financial regulator of UK. I would still have to do LPC after next years Masters.

Well, do you have an offer for a training contract? Because if your goal is a training contract both courses are fantastic.

However, you should have considered coming to LSE if your goal is the training contract, the law fair and the contacts are fair superior.

I think it’s a matter of preference, from a law firm perspective it does not make any difference.

I have a query regarding the MLF.

I have applied for the BCL but not the MLF.

Assuming my application for the BCL is successful, do you think there is any possibility of switching to the MLF? (I am not sure I would do this, however I am starting to think that “prestige of BCL”, is not a valid reason to choose it over the MLF. )

Studying the MLF could potentially put me in a better place for the MPhil, as I would have developed some quant skills.

The two week wait is agony! If I’d known this would be done I’d have made the second application ;-)

Imo the BCL would put you in a better position for the MPhil. Also, I don't think Oxford would permit you to switch the courses, as they always get more first class apps than they have places. However, sending them an email won't hurt! They usually reply super fast.

Congratulations for those who have received your offer for the 2019-2020 MLF programme!

If you have made up your mind on coming to Oxford, I would like to introduce you to the Oxford Fintech & Legaltech Society, a student-led society founded in 2017 by a group of MLF students to discuss the impact disruptive technologies are having on the landscape of business, legal practice, and regulation. The society holds a variety of events on topics like Careers in Fintech, Open Banking, Fintech and Brexit, AI, and Blockchain. Given the historical affiliation with the programme, the Society would like to continue to see a strong involvement from MLFs next academic year, and will be opening up the call for applications towards the end of summer. If you would like to get a head start on the Society’s activities, do feel free to subscribe to our mailing list here: https://bit.ly/2Vkx1sj. We hope to see you all in a few months time.

Strongly doubt you can as otherwise you dodge the system. Though technically the BCL is much more competitive, the MLF is focused particularly on finance where you take non-law courses taught at Said. Usually the MLF cohort is made of people who had some exposure into banking/finance. While theoretically you can, practically you don't - I'd suggesting calling the law school.

Alternatively you can take the BCL and focus your modules on Corporate Finance/Principles of Financial Regulation/International Economic Law etc. These are all MLF-related topics as well, and the first two are dominated by MLFs, though you're not put at disadvantage if you don't have knowledge into those areas. Pretty much everyone's on equal footing there.
