Hi everyone,
I wish to pursue graduate studies in Intellectual Property.
I am not a law student, but I have BSc and Msc degrees in Economics from the University of the West Indies.
My problem is that most LLM programs I can find are exclusively for law graduates.
There are also many programs for non-law graduates, which are in most instances MSc programs. I already have an MSc qualification, and this would thus not be a suitable academic move. Additionally, these MSc programs tend to be very science and technology based, usually aimed at graduates from the natural sciences and engineering.
My interests are in the international trade and developmental aspects of intellectual property, and I intend to pursue substantial research and policy analysis in these areas. It is hence very important for me to pursue and LLM program in IP. I also have a fairly strong background in competition regulation and many of the aspects of the interface between law and economics.
I am thus seeking advice on LLM programs in Intellectual property for which non-law graduates may apply (in any jurisdiction).
Any such advice would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to look into the University of Edinburgh
www.law.ed.ac.uk/
I was admitted to LLM intellectual Property without a law degree. With your background and experience I dont beleive you would have any problem being admitted.

You should contact the programme director at Edinburgh, Ms Smita Kheria, she is extremely friendly and helpful and I am sure would be able to answer questions you have. The biggest difficultly that non-law students have in pursuing LLM programmes is that they are typically unfamiliar with basic legal concepts. She would be able to advise you as to how much prior preparation you might need. Her email is smita.kheria@ed.ac.uk. Best of luck.
