I am really looking forward to applying to the Dutch University.
If someone could give a comparison between UvA's International Trade and Investment Law LLM and Leiden's Arbitration LLM program, or just a general comparison between the two, it would be great!
Thank you!
Leiden v/s UvA

My colleague just come back from his master degree in Leiden. He said it is the nicest experience of his life.
Not only the education in Dutch university is decent but the quality of life, atmosphere, infrastructure are all good.
(We are from developing country, so if u are western-EU/Scandinavian u might find the Netherlands not so fancy)
From what i read through my research, Leiden is more famous in law as you can see in the international rankings (Time/Qs) always ranked Leiden in good standing position in law.
On the other hand, UvA is a well-known well-rounded university that offer many subjects. Law might not be their flagship but still famous and ranked in good position worldwide.
So i think the teaching quality and reputation of these two are only marginal. The key is whether u want to stay in capital city like Amsterdam (which rent is crazy) or more chilling area like Leiden.
Hope this help ;)

Hey!
Thank you so much for this! It does give me a clearer insight into selecting the right university.

Hi. Alumnus from Leiden here, I did advanced PIL specialized in ICL. Leiden has no rival at the moment in NL for Public International Law, Arbitration, ICL. Do you want to receive some of your courses at the ICJ or you want to study in Amsterdam? I don’t think arbitration in Leiden is even the best in Europe, I think there are more prestigious and old programs in Geneva but Leiden University is considered better than Amsterdam. As to the cities, with Leiden University you can lives in Leiden or The Hague as classes are taught equally in both campuses. I lived in The Hague for my whole year, some classmates lived in Leiden and others moved from one city to the other. In Amsterdam is almost impossible to find a place close to the center while still affordable by students. But I don’t think this is key for the decision, if your interest is partying in Amsterdam, you can perfectly do that from almost every city in NL, you take the train to Amsterdam and can come back at 1,2,3,4,5,6AM. Or you can move there and always see people partying when you go to the center to study...
Sorry everything is written without any space, I wrote it with my iPad but hope it helps
