LLM - Bar Exam without an LLB

Rallie

Hello everyone,

I recently graduated with an LLM from Bocconi University. My bachelor's degree is in International Business from Germany.

I am trying to find out to what extent can I practice law in Netherlands. I don't seem to find much information online. Do I need to sit for the Dutch bar? How can I qualify to sit for the Dutch bar? Does anyone know what type of preparation would I need?

Thank you in advance!

I would like to know as well. If you have information, could you dm me? I know in Sweden it is impossible if you are not an EU citizen, and I'm starting to be worry.

Hello!

As a current student at the University of Groningen, doing my LLB Bachelor (which does not give me civil effect), I can give you some information. In order to practice law in the Netherlands as a lawyer, you need to be registered within the Netherlands Bar Association; the only way you can do that is if you complete law school at a Dutch university. However, you may qualify as a lawyer in another country and then establish yourself in the Netherlands, but there is different criteria for that situation. If you would like to access more information about the specific requirements for access to the Dutch bar, you can find that on this link: https://www.advocatenorde.nl. I hope this is helpful to a certain extent!
