I know when I studied in Utrecht, the university recommended housing agency charged international students almost double the rent that Dutch students paid so be careful! The housing contracts were also very difficult if not impossible to break. I'm not sure if it is the same at Erasmus but it would not surprise me.
However most international students will take places with such rents due to the uncertainty of housing before they leave. You will find once you get there and begin to meet people you will begin to hear of rooms in the general market.
If you feel uncomfortable going to the university without housing organised I would recommend renting via the university for one semester only and then trying to find your own accommodation. Otherwise you could go a month early and look yourself. They always say it is difficult to find housing, which it is, but you always eventually find something.

its very hard i know. I dont know where to begin looking for a room. i believe going there earlier than i should go to look for a room would be difficult.
if id only knew some of the students who are going for the semster maybe we could all together find a suitable apartment but i guess this would be difficult as well.
500/600 is super expensive.

Hi guys,
Congrats to everyone for being selected in the LL.M. programm ! I'll be there as well!
As a matter of fact, it seems really hard finding a room where you're not in Rotterdam ! I am doing it for one month!
Moreover, I totally agree with you guys, Stadwonen's prices are so high, it's like stealing international students !
If you want we can try finding an appartment together in small groups !
Good luck and see you soon in Rotterdam !

Hi guys, I already reserved a room via Stadswonen. It is in Wilgenborgh. Well, it is too far from the university indeed but I do not have alternatives.
I can`t wait to get started:)
See you there:)

Actually I do not mind looking for an apartment and sharing it with a small group. I dont even know where to begin looking for one.
I have some difficulties reserving a room. Staadswonen do not offer rooms with reasonable prices. All ive found was for 800/900 Euros. I believe I am doing something wrong. Would anyone advice how can I find a room on staadswonen?
I believe the best place to look for a room is Karlingen.

Hello Guys,
I have been accepted as well to this LLM programme...I'm so excited..
I definitely dont want to stay at a student flat of Stadswonen...Is there anybody who has searched through a rental agency? Is it so difficult to find an accomodation individually??

terribly difficult! U find a room and when u msg the apartment owner they never answer or they tell u come look at it and you cant come look at it cuz ure not in Rotterdam i assume. Therefore the best is that u rent through staadswonen (which is EXPENSIVE) and then i believe that u can go there look for an apartment later.

Oh thanks for the answer...The matter is that it's not only expensive with Stadswonen but these student flats will not be in the best condition from what I've read.....
Anyway...any guy who will attend the course and want to keep contact with me before the course starts, I give you my msn to have a prompter communication...Let's not be strangers when we will arrive there....

Hi guys,
I think the best way to find accommodation is going on the website housinganywhere.com or easykamer.nl !

You could rent my room for 350 euros a month for the whole year. It is a stadswonen room, you need to contact me through kamernet.nl and look for rivierstraat 51. I dont'want to place my e-mail here.

Hey! I spend a couple of weeks in amsterdam back last year! It was great, i absolutelly loved it! If anyone wants to go on a trip then you have to rent an apartment in the Dam and live like the locals. its the greatest experience ever.

I want to share with you the awful nightmare with the agency of the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam: Stadswonen
First of all, their prices are awful!
Then their accommodations are so far away from the University.
They even lie to you that you are going to have your OWN room and once you get there you actually see that you have just a sliding door of glass between a very small space "room" and your roomate`s "room".
And noone has told you about that!!!
Also, in case you want to change your accommodation to another rook of THEIR buidings they make yoy pay an additional fee, although you actually wanted to have a room near to the university but they were not able to offer you such room!
STADSWONEN are a real disappointment and they caused me so much stress and disturb!
These people are so greedy and their attitide is awful indeed!
In addition to that, even if one`s contract is until 31th of the month, they make you leave at 10am on the last day of the month, even thought you`ve actually paid for the whole day!
That is ridiculous and I wonder how the Erasmus Universiteit tolerates such attitude.
It is the worst nightmare ever!!!
