Help!!! - NY Bar eligibility - LLM in 2007

ilsp2007

Hi there,
I am a foreign attorney who completed my LLM in 2007. As I wanted to take the NY Bar Exam, I took the required 6 credits during my LLM course but eventually could not take the NY Bar exam and had to leave to my home country for personal reasons.

I just returned to US and would like to take the NY Bar Exam. I have sent all my papers to NY Bar in July but have not heard anything from them till date.

I read Rule 520.6 but its unclear as it says LLM candidates prior to 2012 have to complete 6 credits of american legal studies (legal research, writing etc.) and 6 credits of subjects tested in NY Bar. http://www.nybarexam.org/Rules/3203-6archive.htm#520.3

In another page it has clearly distinguishes the eligibility criteria for LLM candidates prior to 2012 and after. http://www.nybarexam.org/foreign/foreignlegaleducation.htm

http://www.nybarexam.org/Docs/ComparisonRule520.6.pdf

I may have read the Rules wrong, but someone please let me know if the old rules stand good for someone who has completed LLM in 2007.

I inquired NY Bar but they said I have to wait until 6 months and this is seriously a long wait as I would like to start preparing for the Bar exam.

Many thanks for your help.

You should be fine. I was in a similar position (completed LLM in 2007 also) and took NY bar exam this July. I had 6 credits and that was all I needed.
