Hello all. I am currently finishing my JD in USA and I was going to take the NY bar before I decided not to yet. Here's information on the bar for NY.

Chances are that that will not be enough for the New York bar. Generally, an LLM will allow you to sit for the bar, however in the case of foreign trained lawyers the studies must be done "at a law school outside of the United States that is both durationally and substantively equivalent to a program of study at an approved law school in the United States, and if required, successful completion of an additional program of study at an approved law school in the United States". I don't know if they consider all education or just law school, since here to get your JD it takes about 7 years (4 years of college plus 3 of law school).

You can see resources for the NY bar here too http://www.nybarexam.org/eligible/eligibility.htm and it's always a good idea to contact someone in the state bar. Applications for the bar are due soon, however, so if your plan is to take it this summer you may want that clarified ASAP.

Hope it helps. Cheers!
