Hey guys:
I really enjoyed the recent post on Not Needing an LLM.
Unfortnuately, I am not willing to become accredited in my home country (England) because of the articling requirement. I just want to become a lawyer so I can set up my own practice.
I am looking at the Univ of London--External LL.B.
My concern is that California--which doesnt require any residency or citizenship--may ask me to do an LLM in addition to the LLB from England.
I noticed that New York will accept the 3 year degree from England: Is it the same deal? With a NY bar admission, I could practice immigration law from anywhere in the US?
Do you know if NY allows out-of-state applicants for admission?
NY wants to know your immigration status on the bar exam form. (Hopefully, I could have solved that by getting an L1 visa for my consulting firm before I am ready to apply to the bar in 3 years).
What to do!? Any thoughts??
Foreign Education? NY or CA Bar?
