Hello friends... What are the job prospects in commercial law field in Australia - New Zealand for an international lawyer with a US LLM (from top 15 law schools) in Business and Economic laws?

I think the fact you hold a US LLM would be well regarded in Australia. However, it all depends on where your JD/LLB entitles you to practise in. I am assuming US? If that is the case I think the prospects is a little low (despite your brilliant quals) unless you apply to Skadden in Australia. Otherwise, Australian law firms practising Australian law would not be able to use you or put you in a position where you would want to be.

Same question about US LLMs in Australia plus another one. Is it easy to qualify in Australia if one is a solicitor in the UK. Do you have information on this. Also, is it easy to obtain a visa to work in Australia?

Quick reply to your questions are:

1. Yes it is relatively easy to qualify in Australia if you are a solicitor in UK. However, I am assuming the UK Solicitor qualified via a 3-year English LLB (rather than the QLTT or Graduate Diploma in Law).

2. Work visas are generally easy to obtain if employers are wiling to assist. However, not many employers would like the additional burden so it would be best if you could qualify for an independent visa.
