Dear all,

What are the prospects of practicing law in Singapore after completing only llm studies there and having an undergraduate degree and 3 years of experience in Europe? Does one have to speak Chinese to land a job? Thank you!

Singapore is an English speaking country.

All Singaporeans at school learn English plus one of the major Singaporean ethnic languages - Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, or Tamil.

Mandarin is not necessary, although a valuable asset in a majority Chinese society such as that in Singapore.

You have to first check if your undergraduate degree is a qualifying law degree in Singapore. If it is not, you will need an exemption to sit for the Singapore bar (and such exemptions are uncommon).

The Singapore market is currently facing a severe glut on the junior lawyer end. There are even trainee lawyers who are working without pay.

Hi! I am a final year law student. I am doing my LLB from India. If I do my LLM from Singapore, will I be required to sit for any Bar Exam to work in a Singapore Law Firm?
