CUHK: International Economic Law

Hello!

Just a quickie post to say hi to (if any) potential students commencing an LLM at CUHK in August, especially if you're doing the IE course!

What are you looking forward to? what are you doing the course? What are you doing now?
Would love to hear from anyone, who knows, we may end up hanging out in the Autumn!

So it seems this has tuerned into a view only thread...=_=""

oh well.

Seems so me like people are having issues contemplateing which uni to accept. I based my decision simply on preference. I didn't want to take into account reputation, I think I avoided HKU due to its apparent "snobbery" which may or may not exist, but the main reason I avoided it because of distance, its on HK island and I wanted to be on the mainland.
I hope it will offer me more of an insight to the culture of HK- not being in the city where most the expats and english speaking people normally are.
As for the newness of the uni, well- they all started from scratch once.
Law students are not known for their friendliness as seen by some of these posts. I really hope class 2006/7 will emit some camaraderie...

Hi Michelle!

I will be going to HK as well this fall. I have been accepted by CityU and still waiting for HKU but pretty happy with either option. I am French living in Britain and finished the LPC 2 years ago (most mind numbing course you're ever likely to be doing, ugh! :-) ). I will be starting my training contract in London in September 2007.
I hope we'll meet up in HK. At the moment other potential HK students seem very friendly so I'm very much looking forward to it all.

Regards,

Jessica

Hey James,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier but I don't think I have any answer for you either. I saw that Aug. 1 registration info myself and I just simply assumed that was a mistake or that only locals had to be there. Your email, though, is definitely cause for concern. I don't know where you live, but there is no way I can just take off for a month and cruise H.K. I think we non-locals should be able to register through proxy, or online or through the mail. That's my best non-answer to your question.

I'll be starting my LLM at CUHK this September also. I'm Korean and have lived in Hong Kong for a number of years before going to the UK for university.

Drop me an email at minjuk@hotmail.com and maybe get a bit of an 'LLMs in Hong Kong social group' going!

Look forward to meeting you all soon.

Hey Esha,

I think you ask yourself where you most want to go. A general LLM at NUS sounds great (there's nothing wrong in my view with a general LLM rather than a specific one, at least with the general one you can chose all the options you want). HK and Singapore are two very different places to study, which do you prefer? Also look at the two programs, which one do you prefer? Maybe make a little list of what you are looking for in a LLM course, taking into account city, fees, courses, entertainment etc. and see which of the two places is closest to your requirements.

I hope it helps a little bit. Good luck with any course you chose to take.

Best regards,

Jessica

Hi Dilipnn,

I just graduated from the CUHK LL.M. program in International Economic Law. It was an incredible year in Hong Kong. I would highly recommend the program to any one looking to gain experience in international and Chinese business and law. If you would like to talk about the program, please shoot me an email at TheIrishLaw@yahoo.com.
