The Law School

The Law School is renowned for its high quality of courses and internationally recognised research. We provide innovative, stimulating and research-led teaching across all areas of the law curriculum and offer a friendly environment with approachable, expert academics and a strong student support system.

Working with our students to enhance their employability and the development of legal and transferable skills are also core to all our courses. Our law graduates are highly regarded by employers both in and outside the legal profession and we have well-established and excellent relationships with many local, regional, national and international law firms.

Our students have progressed to a wide variety of successful careers, from private practice in local and international law firms to government legal departments and international organisations, from universities to industry and commerce.

The Program

Intellectually diverse and stimulating courses: We offer among the most varied range of specialist postgraduate (LL.M) courses in the UK and globally, supported by a wide ranging selection of over 30 modules.

Supportive and exciting environment: All students have their own Academic Adviser and the compulsory Postgraduate Legal Skills and Research module is aimed at assisting students in developing a number of core legal study skills needed during the LLM and beyond. We also provide a specialist Integrated Law Language Programme in the first semester to help those students' whose first language is not English in understanding and using Legal English.

We offer a number of specialist Taught Master's (LL.M) degrees, supported by a diverse range of over 30 modules:
- LL.M International Commercial and Business Law
- LL.M Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law
- LL.M International Commercial and Competition Law
- LL.M Media Law, Policy and Practice
- LL.M International Trade Law
- LL.M Employment Law
- LL.M General (Master of Laws)

All of our LL.M degrees extend over one year of full-time study. Students must complete 180 Master's level credits of assessed modules. This includes the induction module in Legal Skills and Research which ensures the development of core legal study skills needed during the LLM year and in your future career, and a 40 credit supervised dissertation on a relevant topic of your choice.

The modules are studied over two semesters between September and June and students then complete the dissertation for submission in the following September. Most modules carry 20 credits and are assessed by a combination of examination, coursework, group work and practical exercises.

Most courses have subject-specific compulsory modules but all courses also offer a wide range of optional modules.

All students have their own Adviser throughout their course of study to offer academic and pastoral support.

The UEA Law School is located in the prestigious Earlham Hall, adjacent to the main university campus. Earlham Hall is a fine 16th century building with teaching rooms, faculty offices and space to socialise. Facilities such as a purpose-built moot courtroom and space for the Law Clinic provide the ideal environment for the study of Law.

The City of Norwich

Based in the East of England, the University of East Anglia has a unique location. Situated on the edge of both the city of Norwich and the Norfolk countryside, our students are perfectly placed to explore both.

Norwich is friendly and dynamic, and it has been consistently ranked as one of the safest places to live in the UK. The city offers an exceptional social experience with its combination of well-preserved medieval buildings standing alongside shopping facilities ranked in the Top 5 in the UK.

The Norfolk coastline is home to world famous bird reserves and beautiful beaches, as well as ever-changing countryside interlaced with sleepy medieval villages, bustling market towns and stately homes. One of England's most scenic national parks, The Norfolk Broads, is also nearby for sailing, walking and cycling - while paintballing, amusement parks, a trip to the zoo or a day at the races are all just a short trip from the University.
