Deadline for tuition & housing scholarship is April 4

Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia announces the establishment of a scholarship for one qualified German LL.M. student.

Although there will likely be some expenses to the selected student, this scholarship package is intended to come very close to covering the total cost of a LL.M. degree. The financial aid package will include:

  • $30,000 tuition scholarship
  • on-campus housing (non-married, single room apartment)
  • employment as a research assistant to cover some additional costs.

The research assistantship will require the student to work closely with W&L law professor Russell Miller in three distinct capacities.

First, the selected student will serve as assistant editor of the German Law Journal.  The student will assist with all facets of the monthly production of the successful, online transnational law journal, co-founded by Professor Miller.

Second, the student will serve as a teaching assistant in the German Law Journal Seminar.  Regular U.S. students enroll in the seminar hoping to serve as student editors for the journal.  The seminar exposes them to the areas of doctrine and theory regularly covered by the journal and trains them in the technical and editorial production of the journal.  As teaching assistant, the student will lead one or two sessions of the seminar.

Third, the student will be responsible for assisting Professor Miller with research on other comparative law related projects.

Potential applicants should review the W&L LL.M. website. Please note that the March 1st deadline for applying will be waived in this case.

Initial inquiry into the scholarship should be made by sending a C.V. and letter of interest by email to Prof. Russell Miller (millerra@wlu.edu) and Assoc. Dean Sidney Evans (evanss@wlu.edu) no later than Friday, April 4, 2008.
