For some prospective LLM students, their LLM degree is the first step towards a doctoral degree and academic career in their home countries. If you plan to apply to an SJD or JSD program after receiving your LLM, you want to make the right choices in planning your LLM coursework to improve your chances of acceptance. The Executive Director of Pitt Law's LLM and SJD programs, Dr. Richard Thorpe, provides advice to prospective LLM / SJD applicants based on his experience reviewing dozens of SJD applications each year.
