Northwestern or Duke

I am atmitted to both Duke and Northwestern for LLM and I'm very uncertain on this issue. Which one is better. Does anybody have opinion.

Northwestern' program is more specific and I think it is much better, although Duke's campus is amazing.
Good luck on your choice!

Thank you for your comment, I am really uncertain. I also worry about the social life in Durham. You know Durham is very small. On the other hand, I hate cold weather.

Considering the 2008 Usnews ranking, Duke is a little bit superior than Northwestern. But your choice would depend on your areas of interest. Also your choice between a large city life and a silent, natural urban campus life.
I will attend to Duke, because of it's good reputation, world-class faculty on my areas of interest and of course, for it's Gothic Wonderland Campus.
Good luck on your choice.

You probably want to consider where you'd like to work after school is over and done with. Chicago offers a myriad of legal opportunities, whereas a small town like Durham does not. I realize a Duke law degree will open up a lot of doors outside of North Carolina, but a Northwestern degree is also extremely well reputed. Plus, living in Chicago is a lot more fun than North Carolina. Choose wisely.

First I disagree with R.30 that NW's program is "much better." These two schools are both good.

You should provide more information for us to make a suggestion. Your specialty, your plan after LLM etc. Living in Chicago might be more fun, but I do know many people don't like cities and it will be much more expensive.

In terms of legal market, I think for LLMs it really doesnt make big difference. Most LLMs won't work in Chicago anyways considering LLMs are usually only eligible to sit for NY or CA bar.

My specilization is WTO law, and I will turn back to Turkey after completing the LLM program. I'm not planning to attend bar examination. I want to choose the better school, but I know the city is also very important. Does any body have any idea about Durham.

I have talked to several people who attended Duke, and without fail all spoke of having a great time at a wonderful university. They really enjoyed their time in Durham, however I also know of people who have spent time in Chicago (not Northwestern) and also really enjoyed it. So either way you should have a good time! Remember that living costs may be less outside of a major city.
