Hello,

I am a 30 year old attorney currently working at a large international/commercial law firm in the US. I have a college degree from a EU university, a JD (law degree) and an LLM degree from top US law schools (but not Harvard or Yale..etc) and an LLM from another EU faculty of law.

I have worked at a couple of large US law firms for about 3 years and I am considering quitting to enroll in the BCL at Oxford. I think the BCL experience would be a wonderful break from large law firm life and give me the energy and passion to resume my work afterwards.

I have a few questions, and I hope someone out there may be able to answer them:

- I will be graduating from the BCL at the age of 31. Is that considered too old for UK standards? Would I be at a disadvantage compared to other BCL students?

- I would like to go back to working at a large international commercial law firm in the UK or the US. How does the hiring process work for BCL graduates?

- Since I already have a few years of experience, I would not start as a trainee. Do UK law firms come on campus to hire junior/mid-level lawyers from the BCL?

- I am not a capital markets lawyer, but I understand that most UK firms would only hire foreign-trained lawyers in that field. If I focused on capital markets at BCL, would I have a chance at joining a large UK firm?

I would also appreciate any advice you may have regarding challenges, pros, cons, etc.

This might well sound stupid, but aren't you well, a bit overqualified? On paper it looks like you are an academic at heart but I could be 100% wrong about that.
