I am an American JD recently accepted to the UW IP LLM program. I'm interested in relocating to the west coast, and working for a firm or company in software licensing, technology strategy, copyright, trademark, etc. I don't have a science undergrad (not patent bar eligible) but worked in leadership positions in the internet field for 10 years prior to law school. My main interests are in soft-ip and business, computer/internet.
I'm looking for perspectives on employment opportunities for someone with my background. I'm graduating cum laude from an east coast tier 2 / tier 3 school, and have a job lined up with a small firm here. However, it's not the kind of law I want to practice, and the growth opportunities are limited by the school and area. My goal in attending UW would be to build connections, gain stronger credentials, and seek employment in the Seattle area.
I would appreciate any advice or thoughts from students who have taken this path, or know people who have. It appears to be an excellent program, and the courses look to be extremely interesting. However, it's a risk, and I'm trying to weigh the options.
Thanks.
