UC berkeley v. stanford

simone

Hi,

I have secured admission in both berkeley and stanford (law science and technology). While I know stanford is a better brand name, berkeley is ranked higher for IP LLM. I don't want to give up stanford but i am not sure if I am making the right decision.

Also, is doing a double LLM a good idea esp in the same country and same field? If so, then which one should i defer? stanford or berkeley? (I mean, which university may give deferrals easily?)

Please help. Thanks!

Definitely Stanford over Berkeley, IP field considered.

Also, I think Stanford doesn't have a deferral procedure.

Well done ;)

I don't think you can go wrong with either offer. However, I am truly convinced that I would choose Stanford over Berkeley.

Stanford is "the place" for IP.. It is on the crest of a wave and I am sure it will last.

In my humble opinion, a double LLM in the same field does not make much sense because the value added would be minimal. I can confirm Stanford does not allow deferrals, at least in what concerns the SPILS (not 100% about the other programs). So, if you defer one of those it would probably have to be Berkeley. It goes without saying that shouldn't just take my word. Ask them directly.

I think both are pretty good schools and cannot go wrong by choosing any of them. Could the financial aspect be the tie breaker? Is Berkeley offering you any money?

wow. thanks a lot everyone!

Yes, i am leaning towards Stanford too. However, Berkeley has been rated above stanford consistently in all rankings. However, I don't know how reliable or authentic all these rankings are!

Yes, financial aid could be a tie-breaker. Berkeley is offering me very minimal aid. I'm not sure if that is enough to tip the scales in their favour! ;)

And oldtimer, thanks a lot for your advice on double LLM. helped.
