insurance (OPT)

So, I am done with my LLM and beginning my OPT. Anyone here have any info on how they did it with i.e. health insurance? I have some insurance quotes from my country, but they are somewhat expensive. Any US insurance possibilities? Anyone know the price?

Common people, I am sure someone has thought of buying health insurance while temporary working in the U.S.? :)

Your best bet would be to purchase a catastrophic policy with a high deductible in the range of $1,000 to $2,000. The little stuff, general exams etc., you would pay out of pocket. The policy would really only be for a major health crisis or injury. Probably would cost you less than $100 per month. How is the job hunt going? Are you going back to Norway after working your one year in the US?

I can get full health insurance here in Norway for approx $1000, which is more expensive than last year, but still cheaper than most companies. My job hunt is ok so far, as I haven't really tried to job hunt yet ;) I got a internship at a business court for fall semester, so while I'm there I'll try to apply for other jobs. I may or may not go back to Norway, it depends where me and my boyfriend get jobs. We kind of want somewhere in Europe, but probably not Norway, or we will end in D.C., where we both have lived before. It is all up in the air right now. I am working in Norway this summer though, feels good to be home :)

If you are planning on working, your employer may offer it. My company provides contract jobs in the NY, DC and CA areas for attorneys. We offer health insurance, and it generally runs about $250-$300/mo.
$1000 in Norway? Ufda!

$1000 for the full year, not per month. I don't think my employer offers any health insurance.Maybe next semester.

To be honest, i am not sure what happened to all of my classmates. I did not hang out with LLMs that much this past year. I think most had hard times getting jobs with an LLM. But one girl is working in Miami, one guy in the same city as my school and one in Boston. These are internships. NC is somewhat friendly if you are applying for internships with low pay, but not if you want to work as an attorney. Plus you can't take the NC bar.

My experience is that doing an LLM is good if you want to go back to your home country, not if you want to work in the US. Unfortunately for me, I want to go home, but I am staying for personal reasons. I got an internship with a judge for the fall, and will try to apply for some internships for the spring as well. And Wake is a fantastic place to study. I love that place.
