KCL or QMUL 2012-2013

vinicius

Hello everyone. I know that this have been discussed a lot in this forum. However, I´m new here.
Yesterday I was offered a position on KCL and today, I got an offer from QMUL. I haven´t applied for LSE or UCL.
I´ll be doing the LLM in International Business Law. I´d like to hear from the others who have already made their choices: what is the best option between QMUL and KCL? Should I try and apply for LSE or UCL, although it´s a bit late?
Thank you so much and hope to find people who had this doubt in the past.

Between KCL and QMUL, I would go for KCL though I don't know very much in detail about either of the two. If you're still undecided between the two, why not apply for LSE and UCL? It seems like the offers for UCL are still being made and have been since December while LSE only just started making offers. For International Business, I would think either UCL or LSE would be better than KCL/QMUL prestige and faculty quality wise, though it would depend on what specific modules you are considering.

Dear All,
Well, QMUL an KCL are very good in Commercial and Corporate Law, so, I don`t think that it will be a waste of money if you choose one of them. However, UCL has a strong reputation worldwide. In my opinion, you should do a research about the modules and courses that you`re planning to take and compare with all program of these universities, so you will be able to find what LLM suits you best.

good luck,

Hey, I currently study at King's (LLB) and I can tell you that, in general, King's is slightly better than Queen Mary.
King's has the best program in the UK for European law, but if you're interested in business & finance I'd definitely have a crack at applying to LSE. UCL, King's and LSE for postgraduates are treated as pretty much the same at a general level but each of them has its strengths and if corporate/business/finance is where you are headed I think LSE is the right choice for you...

I had similar thoughts about UCL / KCL / QMU / LSE. Certainly KCL has a big reputation, and definitely in the EU area. But QM is just as well known, and for Regulatory / Information (IP/ICT etc.) law it is stronger than KCL.

To be honest, if you're doing it for a 'career in business or law' purposes, then it makes no difference. (I've been qualified as a E&W / Ireland lawyer for over 6 years, interviewed plenty and spoken with peers.) You need to think about other things - e.g. what suits you, what do you want? (I've read on many other discussion boards here that QMUL actually gets better student satisfaction ratings. The fees don't differ widely between them either.)

One thing to bear in mind - KCL have culled a huge number of courses from the previous year's menu. When I contacted them, they explained why (all understandable reasons), but it is unlikely they'll be bringing many back in the short term. In comparison, QM's selection is much, much wider.

Well done on the offers. I got mine too - will decide over the weekend..

I applied to KCL on 21st Jan, haven't received any notification regarding the progress of my application.Should I call and find out or just wait it out.
To those who have been accepted, may I ask how long did it take for them to receive any positive response?

Thanks in advance!

I went with QM in the end. Ultimately, they had exactly the right courses I wanted - otherwise, I was going to have to choose one I didn't really want to do (but which would have been okay).

Did you graduate from QM LLM programme? How was it?

No, I'm starting there in September. Whilst there's no guarantee, they were quite sure of my courses for the two years (I'm doing it part-time) and they said they have every intention of running them.

Whatever you do, make sure you check the websites too - they're updating the courses quite regularly.
