I'm an American finishing my law degree from a tier 1 university but not a top 20 school. I have a gap just over 3.4 which seems to be the cutoff for 2:1 honors but i really can't tell. Any one with experience getting into LLM programs at top UK schools? I imagine oxford and cambridge are out, but do I have a shot at KCL?

Hi!
Yes! Give KCL a shot!!! I think that their admissions policy is not as strict as, say, LSE's, for example. The good thing is that you'll find out rather quickly. I received an offer 9 working days after I had applied :)
Ouh and - you might wanna submit your application soon, they have rolling admissions and I am aware that heaps of applicants have already received offers!
Nevertheless - do it!! :)
Good Luck and I'll have my fingers crossed.
Cheers!
