South African LLB - USA?

Hi

I will be completing my LLB from UCT at the end of next year. I would really like to practice law in the US.

Can anyone help me with regard to the requirements in order to do so?

The short answer is that you should be able to take the New York bar exam and might be able to take the Massachusetts and California bars (which I'm not as familiar with), but will probably have problems in the other 47 states.

On the question of actually practicing in the US, though, you're going to have a really tough time right now because the market is in the doldrums and is totally glutted with American JD grads who can't find jobs and experienced lawyers who have been laid off. It's not at all a good time to try to break in as a foreign law grad.
