Foreign LLB and LLM

Enasali

Hi! I got my LLb and LLM degrees assessed from NCA. Both degrees are from UK but my LLb was classified by NCA as distance learning. Not only have they given me 8 exams but have said these must be done through in class study here in Canada. I have been trying to find out programs which I can do. I have only been able to find University of british columbia LLM which is too expensive. I live in British columbia. Can someone please let me know of any 1 year program which I can take here to satisfy the nca requirements but which also not too costly?

Hi, thanks for the reply. You must be in Toronto if you going for osgoode. I live in British columbia so my choice of programs is limited to here. And UBC has other LLMs too which cost less like 5500 a year but you are not allowed to enrol into the NCa required courses. The only program they do have that fulfills the Nca subjects  requirements is LLM in common law which is like more than 30000 dollars???? can't believe I have to spend more than what I spend in UK on an LLM that I don't need. Also admission is competitive.

Is it really that expensive?

Hi Enasali - you can consider applying for funding at UBC or external sources since admission is closed for 2020, you will now have to enroll for 2021 which allows for time to gather funding.
Also, why were your degrees classified as distance learning?

My LLB degree was from university of London and which I had done in class at one of their reaching institutes but NCA refused to accept it as in class. My masters degree was accepted as in class which is why I have to do 1 year inclass in Canada instead of 2 years. I will check for funding for the degree, hopefully can figure out some way to fund it.
