As a student in the LLM, I totally agree with his comments.
The program in Liège is not only enjoyable and challenging, but also - costing a mere 800 - incredible value for money !
The LLM offers excellent courses and a wide array of seminars, taught by some of the best practitioners in Brussels. Though I havent attended any of Europes top universities, I seriously doubt that the content of their courses is of a much higher standard. Besides, because the LLM is so cheap, students could probably follow this LLM and take an extra LLM in the UK or US later on.
Furthermore, the LLM in Liège has many other advantages.
First, most of the professors are (or have been) practitioners in top law firms or large companies (Van Bael & Bellis, Hogan Lovells, Howrey, Microsoft, etc.) They are experts in their fields, which is a huge plus because it allows students to learn a lot about the current issues and challenges facing professionals in both IP and Comp law.
Second, the professors really help and encourage the students to find internships, to improve their CVs with extracurricular activities (moot courts, conferences, projects, etc.) and to further their knowledge in IP & Competition law. I for one have been able to attend many renowned Competition law conferences for free, to assist some of the courses professors with work on a large project, and to participate in the Lamy moot court. This has allowed me to meet lawyers active in the field of competition law and find two internships in top law firms (one of them is a first tier firm in Competition law).
Third, quite a few study trips are organized during the year. This year, they included a visit to the ECJ, attending a conference in Paris, and a seminar at Solvay. These trips were both fun and educating.
Last but not least, the professors are always willing to answer students questions and help them when possible. Professor Petit, in particular, is always available and the way he heads the program is truly remarkable.
I would definitely recommend this LLM to anyone with an interest in IP or competition law. It's a great program with great professors and, in my humble opinion, an excellent first step towards either a career in IP/Competition law or being selected for one of the top LLMs.
