LLMat McGill and New York Bar exam

Mel21

Hi everyone!

I really hope that someone will help me to find some information because I have no answer...even from McGill.

I am applyting to several Law Schools in the US and I have decided to apply to McGill. But I have a problem, I have read that the LLM Program last until august at McGill and the New York Bas is on July (the preparation on June). So, I think that it is impossible to sit for the bar exam if I am accepted at McGill? Some of my professors studied at McGill and sat for the Bar but it was years ago and I am not sure that it is possible to do the same with the prgram now. Has someone the same problem? Could someone give me some advice?

Thank you very much!!!

If you're in the non-thesis track, it's going to be tough, but doable. You don't have any classes after April - you're just working on your research project - so you could theoretically study for and take the NY bar in July and write your research project before the beginning of August, but it probably means doing almost all of the work on your research project in April/May.

FWIW, the McGill LLM does not entitle you to take the NY Bar the same way a US LLM does - you would need to be eligible under another category (e.g., an LLB from a common law jurisdiction).
