I have just completed my LLB and am considering doing an LLM. Because of the economic crisis at the moment, its really hard to get a job. So I was wondering:
1. Will doing an LLM make it easier for me to get a job?
2. What sorts of job prospects will there be for me if I were to do an LLM?
3. What sorts of things should I take into consideration when it comes to doing an LLM?

Hello there,
I have tried to assist you with my opinion and hope this helps. I am assuming you are a DOMESTIC student
1. Yes and no, it depends on where you complete your LLM, the specialise and its relevancy with your intended job and your grades.
2. See number 1. For example, an LLM in Criminal Law would not help you get a job in a top-tier Corporate law firm.
3. A LLM would help you distinguish yourself from LLB graduates if it is well selected. The disadvantage of completing it fresh out of Uni would be the fact that you may not be sure which area of practice you would want to go into. If so, completing an LLM in Tax (for example), would not impress employers in Family law - in fact it might have the opposite effect. If, however, you have a clear idea of what area you want to specialise in then go for it!
If you are intending to complete a general LLM to do more "electives" to find your intended area of interest then go for it as well :)
Cheers,
G
