Congratulations to all on your acceptances. Does anyone knows the pros and cons of each university?, I understand that the academic level of all the dutch universities are similar and therefore it's very hard to make a decision.

Hello. I found accidentally this topic and read Your posts with great interest, since we face familiar problems. I have been admitted to Nottingham, Newcastle, Leeds (and waiting for Edinburgh) in UK, and Groningen (waiting for Tilburg) in Netherlands. And I'm completely at a loss. Both Unis in Netherlands look very appealing. I read that Tilburg is extremely highly ranked in terms of Economics (best in Europe) and Law (second in whole Europe according to Times). With unbelievably low tuition fees Holland seems a great place. I have two questions and would be grateful if You share Your opinions. First, how long does it take for Tilburg to make a decision? They have received my docs on Jan. 16. Second, do You think LLM degree in one of those Uni can help in my route to PhD degree?

Hey Zathanel, Tilburg was very fast to give me an answer (about a week after they received my documentation), maybe you should send them an e-mail to check on the status of your application. Good luckFri Feb 27, 2009 07:51 PM Vicencia, thanks for your references on Groningen and Utrecht, I don't really have any special information on scholarship, but maybe you can find somenthing on www.nuffic.nl they have such kind of information. |

Well, I received an offer from Tilburg few days ago. Fantastic people are working there in my opinion. As I haven't decided yet I think Tilburg is a great option. I ponder about job prospects after completing it's LLM programme, though.

Hello,Mon Mar 16, 2009 03:33 PM I have been accepted to Amsterdam on the LLM EU Business Law. I chose this for 2 reasons: 1) Amsterdam is the best ranked university in NL 2) I think job prospects after graduation are higher with an LLM from AMsterdam (prestigious and well know) as oppose to Tilmburg (very good but still lacks a reputation). Your thoughts? should I also apply to Tilburg? |

Hi there,Tue Mar 17, 2009 08:22 AM I've been accepted by Tilburg for the IEPL LLM programme. They've moved fast and according to their website and Dutch ratings, they are among the best in Europe. My problem resides in the fact that according to some of their LLM students (opinions expressed on student forums) there seems to be a problem with accommodation. I plan to take my family for the duration of the LLM studies. Can anyone help me out with some suggestions on how to find and secure a cheap 2 bedroom studio or apartment for one year? Also, is there somebody who can tell me more about this university from personal experience? I am open to any ideas. --- |

The problem with Tilburg is; I do not see it on any rankings. Groningen, A'dam, Leiden and Utrecht all appear; but not Tilburg. Due to this, I worry about future employment prospects as if it does not have the renound reputation; employers may not respect the LLM. Any thoughts?

I agree that it might present a problem with potential employers, but I plan to pursue with a PhD in International law, that might not be at UvT. While in the LLM programme I will asses the PhD options offered by the ranked universities and I will apply to the one that will suit my purpose.Tue Mar 17, 2009 09:02 AM Still, on the this link : www.llm-guide.com/university/542/tilburg-universit…, it states: "Law School On the international level, the Faculty ranks first in Europe in the Social Science Research Network, and is increasingly successful in obtaining European research grants. Some of the leading Law Faculties in Europe and the US belong to the Faculty’s international network. Its partners include Georgetown, Sorbonne, Science Po, Bocconi, Heidelberg, and Queen Mary and Westfield." Any opinions on this? --- [Edited by wizzard on 17 Mar 2009] |

I am also considering looking for a job in the Netherlands after I complete my LLM, My question is: although I am already trying to learn Dutch, does anyone have any idea if it is possible to find a legal job even if you are not totally fluent in Dutch, but instead are very fluent in English and in other languages?Wed Mar 18, 2009 07:15 PM Well, I received an offer from Tilburg few days ago.
